For a graphic design class during my first year at Madison College, I took on the task of designing tickets for Eyedress at the Overture Theater in Madison, WI. My aim was to capture Eyedress's grunge aesthetic while maintaining a minimalist font look. This project allowed me to explore the intersection of different design styles and experiment with balancing the raw energy of grunge with the simplicity of minimalist typography.
DESIGN PROCESS
My design sketches for the Eyedress tickets were heavily influenced by my admiration for his work. From the outset, I envisioned a photo collage capturing his unique aesthetic. Following the guideline of black and white, I drew inspiration from his diverse album covers, integrating elements from these albums into the design. This approach allowed me to pay homage to Eyedress's artistic vision while creating a visually engaging ticket concept for the Overture Theater.
In the end, I selected a design that captured Eyedress's personality during the tour. I edited the design to depict him flipping off the camera, reflecting his attitude at the time. On the other side, I aimed to showcase his grunge and skater boy roots by incorporating elements like him smoking weed, details of his girlfriend at the time (now wife), his skateboard, and other personal touches. This design choice allowed me to create a ticket that not only reflected Eyedress's image but also provided fans with a glimpse into his lifestyle and influences.
DESIGN USAGE
In addition to finalizing the design, I took the extra step of mocking it up to resemble a real ticket and printed them out. Furthermore, I created a small animation to complement the tickets. This animation, primarily a frame-by-frame test using Photoshop, allowed me to experiment with bringing the design to life in a dynamic and engaging way. Through these additional efforts, I aimed to enhance the overall experience of the Eyedress ticket concept, providing fans with not only a visually captivating design but also an immersive and interactive element that could be on social media.
