For my Advanced Design Layout class, I undertook the challenge of redesigning The Ordinary's website. Focused on enhancing user experience and responsive design, the project aimed to cultivate my skills in website layout design and adaptability. Though I didn't delve into coding, the project allowed me to explore the intricacies of resizing layouts while sharpening my eye for effective design.
DESIGN PROCESS
Drawing inspiration from the minimalist and bubbly design trends of the 2020s, I embarked on the design process for The Ordinary website with a clear vision in mind. My objective was to maintain the brand's signature simplistic style while infusing it with a fresh vibrancy to avoid any sense of blandness or dreariness. By carefully balancing minimalism with dynamic elements, I crafted a design that not only honored The Ordinary's aesthetic but also provided users with an engaging and visually appealing browsing experience.
In my initial sketches, I prioritized visuals over text, aligning with modern design trends and user preferences. Every remaining text element was purposefully chosen for clarity and impact. Navigation was a key focus, and I organized the layout to be more intuitive and user-friendly than the existing design. By emphasizing photos and simplifying navigation elements, I aimed to create a website that captured attention and facilitated effortless exploration for visitors.
The finished design of The Ordinary website emphasizes seamless accessibility across various devices, including desktops, tablets, and phones. User experience was central to the design process, with a focus on minimizing scrolls and clicks required for navigation on each device. By implementing responsive design principles, the website adjusts smoothly to different screen sizes and resolutions, ensuring a consistent and intuitive browsing experience. This approach reflects The Ordinary's dedication to providing a user-friendly platform for customers to explore its products and content considering it is a chemical skin care company. DESIGN USAGE
Redesigning The Ordinary website was all about blending UX skills with smart design planning. Every step focused on making it easy to use on any device. I even have examples on how smoothly it scrolls on desktops, tablets, and phones. This project taught me a lot about making designs that people actually enjoy using.
